How to take care of your candles

We want you to enjoy your candle as much as you want to enjoy your candle. They’re pretty easy to take care of but for anyone looking for a few burning tips, follow this simple (sometimes obvious) list to get the most out of the little guy.

01. Placement

We’re sure you already know this but always place your candle on a flat, stable, and heat-safe surface away from windows, vents, and drafts. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and to be extra safe, keep them out of reach of kiddos and furry friends.

02. Burning

To get the most out of your candle, allow the wax to melt to the edges of the container on each burn. This is especially important during the first burn to help prevent candle tunneling. This may take anywhere from 2-4 hours. If your wick gets off-center, gently guide it back toward the middle while the wax is still liquidy.

03. Trimming

Want that flame to have a smooth, smoke-free flicker? Trim the wick to 1/4" before each lighting. This promotes an even burn, steady flame, and will help limit soot and wick mushrooming. It also helps to keep the wax free of any wick trimmings, and debris.

04. Burn Time

Did you know you can overburn a candle? Yep, sure can. Burn no more than 3-4 hours at a time and for our concrete containers, no more than 2-3 hours. And once your candle has burned down to 1/4″ of remaining wax, it should no longer be burned.

05. Bonus

Aren’t these nice looking vessels? When you’re done with the candle, reuse them for a small plant, penny jar, or something fun. Let those creative ideas flow!

Other basic details, if you’re interested

Eco & Vegan-Friendly
Candles and melts are made with soy wax derived from U.S. grown soybeans, which is a natural and renewable source. All ingredients are vegan-friendly and cruelty free.

Non-Toxic
No synthetic dyes, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or toxic chemicals. Cotton wicks are lead and zinc free creating a healthier, cleaner burn.

Hand-Poured
All candles and melts are hand-poured in small batches in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Soy Aesthetics
When using completely natural soy wax, sometimes you may notice darker patches or "wet" spots in your container candles. The top of your candle may also appear slightly uneven. These are not faults of the candle but rather due to the natural makeup of the wax and will not affect the way your candle will burn.

Candle Fact #143

Soy wax was invented by a group of college students. That’s right! In 1996 students at Purdue University were responsible for creating a candle made of renewable resources, making today’s soy wax candles super eco-friendly. Boiler up!
